- Hi Mike, Slides arrived this morning. Wow do they work well! Bach made a conversion kit in the 80’s – for me, they were awful. The Bb slides are the best of both worlds: The sparkling crisp sound that’s in their C trumpets, but now in a Bb, but still maintains that classic lead Bb Bach sound. Everything is in tune, even and slots really well. Playing lead with a 229 Bell is awesome! Upper register articulation is amazing. Double A centers open (no fingers); the ever elusive double Bb centers spectacularly fingered 2 & 3. I wonder if that has to do with the C trumpet design?
- Most conversions sets (Eb/D, C/Bb, even some Picc Bb/A) favor one, while the other is sort of a consolation prize. I’ve always loved how bright & centered a great C trumpet sounds and feels. To have that in a Bb and still have that classic Bach sound is amazing. I’ve played over 12 hours this week on my converted horn and it blows everyone away.
