1 review for M/K Trombone Leadpipes – Fits Getzen-Edwards Trombones (MK42 Tenor, Nickel with Threaded Collar, .547 Bore)

  1. Daniel Lovell

I play on an Eastlake 88H set up with a custom Instrument Innovations rotary valve section and removable leadpipes, and ordered this Nickel MK42 as an experiment — it was half the price of a competing maker’s take on an Mt. Vernon 42 leadpipe, so I figured it couldn’t hurt.

It accomplished everything I hoped it would! Articulations, particularly at “pp”, are crystal clear, and both clarity and projection are improved significantly. The principal horn in our community orchestra, who wasn’t aware of the change and who I hadn’t played with in a while, remarked on the clarity and brilliance when rehearsing Star Wars and Mars (Holst) and asked if I had been practicing more. That said, there is a noticiple loss in warmth, color (at least behind the bell), and flexibility compared to the stock Conn pipe, but for my use case — playing principal and often struggling to cut through the texture — it turns the horn into a monster, like driving a Dodge Viper: raw, visceral, and fun. It’s incredibly well made as well.
